Cake smashes are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. As a cake smash photographer, I believe it’s one of life’s few moments where your little one can let loose and make a mess without a worry in the world! Serving families in Ashburn and all across Northern Virginia, DC, and beyond, I turn frosting-filled fun into sweet memories you’ll treasure forever!
A cake smash session is a joyful (and messy!) way to celebrate your little one’s first birthday! It involves letting your baby explore, play with, and (of course) smash a delicious cake while I capture every adorable moment. The result is a collection of candid, fun-filled photos that showcase your child’s unique personality during this precious milestone.

We start by chatting about your child’s favorite colors, beloved characters, and any specific interests they might have. Do they adore superheroes like Spider-Man or Wonder Woman, love singing along with Elsa from Frozen, enjoy Paw Patrol adventures, or perhaps can’t get enough of Bluey and her playful antics? Maybe they simply light up at the sight of pastel rainbows, love anything with dinosaurs, or are fascinated by all things under the sea! Whatever brings a smile to their face, we’ll incorporate those elements to make the session truly special.
Your insights are invaluable! Whether you have a specific theme or just a few ideas, we’ll collaborate to bring your vision to life. Maybe you have a special outfit, a cherished heirloom, or a favorite color palette you’d like to include. Don’t hesitate to share—no idea is too big or too small! By weaving your ideas into the session, we’ll create a personalized experience that reflects your child’s personality and your family’s story.
I bring your chosen theme to life by combining high-quality pre-printed backdrops, real tangible props, optional premium elements like balloon arches. This mix creates a three-dimensional, immersive setting that makes the photos pop! Whether it’s a whimsical forest filled with plush animals, a colorful carnival with bright banners and fun toys, or a simple, elegant setup featuring your child’s favorite colors, I’ll design a scene that captures the essence of your theme beautifully.
I’m thrilled to partner with Moonlight Cakes, owned by the talented Issys Weiss, as my main artisan baker who creates the most delightful and theme-perfect cakes for my cake smash sessions. Her custom cakes not only look amazing but are made with high-quality ingredients to ensure your little one has a tasty (and safe) smashing experience!

I’m thrilled to offer a cake that perfectly fits the vision for your child’s cake smash session! When you book with me, we’ll have a chat about exactly what you’re imagining, from the cake’s flavor and design to any specific themes you have in mind. I collaborate with talented local bakers who are amazing at bringing these visions to life, ensuring the cake not only looks fantastic but tastes delicious too.
I’ll also ask about any dietary restrictions or food allergies to ensure the cake is safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.

I recommend having no more than three different outfits, not including going bare. While I understand having multiple different looks for your little one would make for a nice variety of looks, most children will start getting feisty after even one outfit change. As much as possible, we want to keep your child happy and in as good of a mood as possible to capture their joyful expressions.
At the moment, I conduct all cake smash photography sessions exclusively in my well-equipped home studio in Ashburn, Virginia. This setting allows me to control the lighting, ambiance, and setup in a way that consistently delivers the high-quality, vibrant images you’ve come to expect from Kristina Yazmin Photography. My studio is specifically designed to cater to the unique requirements of cake smash photography, complete with a variety of props, backdrops, and, of course, the cake, ensuring a fun, comfortable, and memorable experience for your little one. While I would love to offer home visits, focusing on studio sessions enables me to provide the best possible service and results for these special celebrations. I look forward to welcoming you to my studio and creating beautiful memories together!
I aim to provide at least 50 retouched photos. Although, I tend to overdeliver and can provide around 75 to 100 images!
I will set up a convenient payment schedule that works best for you! I do require a non-refundable retainer equal to 50% of your package cost that will be due at signing, with the full balance due a few days before your session date.
Life’s unpredictable, and I completely get that plans can change. If you need to reschedule, we’ll work together to pick a new date. If rescheduling doesn’t work out or you have to cancel, any payments made beyond the retainer fee will be refunded. As a goodwill gesture, the retainer can be used towards the cost of any future photography services you might like!
